Best Online Poker Games
Poker enthusiasts and even poker novices will find a variety of poker game available to both learn and play online. Today a player can make money (or lose money) without ever leaving their home. But online poker also offers a variety of games to play and a vast betting range. Yes, you can play for pennies. Or even virtual chips (and save your pennies).
Five Card Draw
This is in the game most people are familiar with as poker. In five card draw, each player is dealt five cards and then may choose which cards to discard and which to keep. Those cards make up their hand. They then play or fold based on that hand.
Seven Card Stud
Seven card stud is another popular home game that has moved to the internet. The game begins with each player being dealt two cards face down and one card face up. Betting begins. The next three cards are dealt face up, with players betting or folding after each card. The final card is dealt face down and the show down takes place after that with players who haven’t folded playing their best five cards. Since players see some of each other’s cards, they can assess their best hand against the other player’s potential hands.
Texas Hold’em
This is the game many people first heard about when the World Series of Poker was televised. It is perhaps one of the most exciting games of poker to play (and to watch). In this game, players are dealt two cards and must make them best five card hand they can from those cards and the community cards. Betting begins with those two cards, so players must make critical decisions before they see the community cards. Community cards are revealed in a series of flops, with betting taking place as they are shown.
Omaha Poker
Omaha poker refers to several poker games with Omaha hold ’em being a game similar to Texas Hold ‘em. In Omaha hold ‘em each player is dealt four cards and must make the best hand using exactly two of them plus exactly three of the five community cards. So unlike Texas hold ‘em, a player can’t play using four or five of the community cards and fewer of his own cards.
Keep in mind that different games may suit different people. And it might be better to become an expert in one or two games rather than trying to conquer the entire range of poker games. But for the poker enthusiast, some sites offer mixed game tables where you can play a variety of games against the same opponents without leaving the table.
